Welcome to the ladonna lanier 018 edit, babe, and thank you for having a look!
In preparing this edit, which went from abstract idea to labor of love, I realized I was not only creating what was not only a recap for 2018, but I was actually living, breathing, and creating my dream. You see, all my life I've wanted to create and work for magazine, but my path took me in a different direction. However, as I sat down in my home office with an Americano and an Aretha Franklin album playing in the background, it's hit me. I remembered that fiery passion from when I was younger. From the pages of French Vogue and Harper's, and Marie Claire, I so deeply admired and appreciated every single page, font, the way words were flirtatiously written, and of course the images that would end up torn out and thumbtacked to my bulletin board. I dreamed of being on the cutting room floor; the chaos of it all thrilled me. And while Volume One has come together just how I imagined it here, it all happened a little bit differently than I'd imagined it years ago, and I'm not the least bit mad about it.
So without further adieu, I present to you Volume One: an interactive design to pique your interest and inspiration. Prepare yourself as lots of these items are clickable (didn't see that coming, did you?), there's video content and so much more. Please enjoy and I can't wait to develop more of these in the future. Thanks for helping me make my dreams come true, my babes!
She is effortless & free. She will steal her man’s clothes & still be so feminine. Her sassy & fearless attitude drives him crazy. She rides her motorbike and forget all the rules. She will forever be an untamed woman...
24 hours with the editor
6:00 a.m. Depending on when the sun rises, I'm up when it's up. Because a lot of my business comes from the East coast, a 6:00 a.m. Arkansas wake up means I'm already behind the emails coming in. Knowing that my inbox will be flooded, I exercise restraint and refrain from opening emails in bed. Though I do like to give my daily devotions and affirmations a scroll. I then slide into my slippers and start a load of laundry. A bit before 6:30 a.m., I'm preparing breakfast and lunches for my family as we start the day.
8:30 a.m. My most creative moments happen in the morning while folding laundry, prepping the day's meals, and daily cleaning. I don't talk much in the mornings because I'm a night owl, but I always wake up with such strong visions of what to create for a shoot or write for a blog post, what pages to design as I rebuilt two websites.
9:30 a.m. On my way to the studio, Babe and I talk on the phone about what we have going on that day, deadlines, the family, schedule, you name it!
10:00 a.m. With a clear mind, I'm able to dive into emails and attack my to-do list, post on Instagram, and talk with my in-studio babes! I also make all my previously scheduled phone calls.
12:00 p.m. Lunch is usually a social event. I'll either spend time with a friend or do a lunch meeting. I try to make the most of these.
1:30 p.m. Everyday is different in my world, but on a regular day, I spend the next few hours working on a shoot/campaign content. Some days are spent location or accessory scouting.
4:30 p.m. Once I'm back home, if it's not my day to cook dinner, I'll check uploaded photos from the photographers and respond to anything that's pressing. I check back in with my team during the 9:00 hour after the household has settled. We discuss deadlines, respond to people in the Lounge, make deliveries on writing projects, and discuss the next client project and offer support and ideas.
10:00 p.m. This is when we turn on music and shift gears to down time. Once I'm finally the only person up, I sketch, drink the water I've neglected all day, and journal. Once I hit the pillow, I'm out. Then the sun rises, and I do it all over again!
